4 ways to spice up the kitchen

Are you the person who religiously reaches for hot sauce at breakfast or adds red pepper flakes to everything?  For those of you who can’t get enough heat, make sure your pantry is stocked with these international spice necessities!

Cholula Hot Sauce

I struggle between Tapatio and Cholula as my favorite Mexican hot sauce, but as an undergrad at Arizona State University, I put Cholula on everything.   It was an absolute staple in our kitchen so my allegiance is steeped in tradition.

La Yu Chili Oil

This chili oil is perfect as a finishing touch to stir-fry’s, over sauteed cabbage or in hot and sour soup.  Toasted sesame oil is the base so its flavor is layered and roast-y.

Sriracha

What is a hot sauce list without the solid standby of Sriracha?  Add it to mayo and serve with french fries or roasted sweet potatoes.

Harissa Paste

Harissa is big on the foodie scene right now.  Its origins travel to North Africa as a spice mixture of cumin, coriander, various chilies and garlic.  The flavor profile is complex, but it’s a fabulous booster to mayo, greek yogurt or olive oil.
